Technology does not wait for IT talent
The acceleration of the digitalization of companies, the rise of data, the irruption of new technologies such as generative artificial intelligence, the sophistication of cybersecurity attacks, among others; pose a new scenario where the demand for specialized IT talent both technical and professional is put in the focus of companies and their own competitiveness.
We are seeing how technology is advancing by leaps and bounds and the human capital deficit is increasing. In addition to this, today we are witnessing the change of functions and activities performed by IT teams with the convergence of modern technologies, the cloud platform, new service models, automation and cyber threats.
By 2024, the global demand for IT professionals is expected to be around 10.5 million, according to the international consulting firm IDC.
"The lack of IT talent in the technology sector has become a critical challenge for companies that today are seeking greater competitiveness with modern technologies. The functions and activities of IT teams are evolving, but the gap between the availability of talent and the demand for it continues to grow," says Milagro Gutiérrez, solutions architect at Anida Latam.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, it is estimated that by 2028 there will be a deficit of 2.5 million ICT professionals, according to IDC's Digital Talent 2023 report.
The gap between supply and demand of IT talent is also associated with the technological investment in the region, which is estimated to be 15.5% by 2026, a figure much higher than the estimated global average of 9.3%, according to the same study. "The deficit of IT technicians and professionals affects not only the productivity of companies but also the economic and social development of the region," says Anida Latam's solutions architect.
