Cybersecurity in the State: advances and challenges for the organizations in Chile
Last May the government presented the proposal for the new National Cybersecurity Policy, which has five strategic objectives, including the development of a "resilient infrastructure", the protection of people's rights in cyberspace, among others. A task that experts analyze due to its importance in an increasingly virtual world, together with the increase of this type of crimes in the country and the region.
After nine months of work, the Interministerial Committee on Cybersecurity presented last May its proposal for a new National Cybersecurity Policy, which, among other things, is aimed at developing a "resilient infrastructure", safeguarding people's rights in cyberspace, fostering a culture of cybersecurity and national and international coordination.
This is a task with both the present and the future in mind, given the advance of this type of attack on both state and private organizations, which are being blackmailed by those who see data as a valuable source of money.
The truth is that these crimes will increase over time, which makes us affirm that cybersecurity is a necessity in organizations, which requires consolidating a new culture and risk awareness in both public and private companies. There is no public or private organization that is free from suffering a cyber-attack. However, those that handle critical information must maximize protection processes, according to cybersecurity experts, as they are a target for hackers.
"48% of Information Technology (IT) professionals in Latin America reported an increase in ransomware attacks; 22% of organizations have suffered a ransomware attack in recent months and 51% of companies do not have a formal plan against hacks of this type"

What is the current situation of government agencies in terms of cybersecurity?
What events or risk situations are driving this increase in investment? What are the main weaknesses or improvements that Chilean companies should implement in terms of IT security? These are some of the doubts that experts linked to the subject seek to answer.
Thus was born "Cybersecurity: Challenges and Opportunities", a multiplatform event organized by the newspaper La Tercera and Pulso, which seeks to debate on computer security
in Chile. Kenneth Pugh, independent senator; Wellington Rodrigues, general director of Thales for the Southern Cone; and Jorge Atton, former presidential advisor on cybersecurity to the Ministry of the Interior and director of Attsons Consulting, participated in this event.
