IT Automation: An operational requirement of the industry

May 09, 2024 - E&N Magazine

The rapid development of intelligent automation is ushering in a new era of business productivity and innovation.

A Gartner study predicts that by 2025, 70% of organizations will adopt automation strategies, leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, machine learning, blockchain, cloud and the internet of things (IoT).

The idea of machines performing tasks with the precision and efficiency of a human being has set new standards of quality, speed and functionality, allowing companies that use them efficiently to outperform their competitors.

In this regard, research by McKinsey Global 2022 highlights that companies that automate their operations will be able to improve productivity by 95% and offer a higher quality product or service by 97%. In addition, automation offers other advantages such as cost savings, uptime and increased safety.

Dany Esteves, Digital Solutions Practice Manager at GBM, emphasizes that "the combination of automation and artificial intelligence is changing the way we do business, with applications ranging from collection, analysis and decision making, to the automation of entire workflows that adjust on the fly; becoming increasingly sophisticated and convenient, resulting in improved competitiveness and response to market challenges".

According to GBM, the first thing companies that want to enter the world of IT automation should do is identify the areas in which digital solutions can be used and make a plan to implement it on a large scale.

"In order to identify processes that can be automated, companies must have characteristics such as multiple systems used, high consumption transactions, significant manual workload, error and rework prone, high predictability, limited exceptions," Esteves explains.

As enterprise IT demands continue to increase, IT automation is becoming more than a novelty. It is a necessary factor in enabling organizations to function in a modern IT environment.

The benefits for companies are manifold:

  • Bullets ANIDA
Operational acceleration: the processing speed of a computer system allows faster procedures, optimizing operations and development time, reducing service and delivery times.
  • Bullets ANIDA
Efficient productivity: allows companies to automate many production processes, reducing the need for personnel intervention and thus reducing human error. This represents an improvement in efficiency and productivity.
  • Bullets ANIDA
Improved agility: facilitates rapid adaptation to changes and demands of an increasingly demanding marketplace
  • Bullets ANIDA
Improved security and compliance:Non-automated processes require a greater number of people involved in management, increasing the risk of a security breach. Automation minimizes the number of managers required, identifies incidents, strengthens security measures and ensures compliance.
  • Bullets ANIDA
Strategic staffing approach: When organizations assign manual and repetitive tasks to employees, talent and the effective use of their capabilities are wasted. Automation frees employees from routine tasks to work on strategic initiatives.
  • Bullets ANIDA
Cost and risk reduction: enables industries to optimize resources, infrastructure, networks and security. It also reduces the number of man-hours required to complete tasks efficiently.

IT automation is a necessity for companies looking to prioritize a proactive environment and make a noticeable difference in the marketplace; and above all, for those who want to anticipate problems, reduce risks in their operations and employ the true potential of their workforce.
