RPA, the acronym for Robotic Process Automation, is a technology that has gained ground in the business world by adding value to businesses, since it makes it possible to increase productivity, minimizing human errors that could be made.

Based on software robots or bots, which perform minor business tasks to streamline company operations and reduce costs, its application allows people to focus on tasks that really add value to the company, leaving those repetitive and tedious tasks in the hands of RPA.

Globally, this market is forecast to grow to more than US$13 billion by 2030, an increase of more than US$12 billion over 2020, according to data from Statista.

According to estimates, almost half of the world's labor activities could be automated in the coming years. Due to its benefits, it is a technology with great potential that we can already see applied in different market sectors.

But what processes to choose when we want to start an automation project in our organization? According to José Campos, Project and Automation Manager at Anida Latam, it is important to consider the following characteristics:

  • Transaction-intensive processes
  • Processes composed of manual and repetitive tasks and activities
  • Processes that generate limited decision making parameters
  • Processes that require access to multiple systems for their execution.
  • Processes in which the information is digital and structured
  • Important use cases

The executive adds that it is important to start with a business case. "Start with a Quick-Win, i.e., a relevant process, a project with quick results and a clear ROI". In this sense, we can define that the ideal is to address processes of low complexity and high impact, which are ideal candidates for automation.

The specialist adds that one of the main mistakes that can lead to results that are not as expected is when the right case is not chosen, which is relevant and can be automated. For example, it is not beneficial to automate processes of low complexity and low impact, just as it is not advisable to address processes that are of high complexity but do not have a major impact.

On the other hand, it is not a good idea to start with highly complex and high-impact processes. Before, recommends the Anida Latam specialist, "it is necessary to gain experience with Quick Win processes". Many times organizations also want to start from the beginning by automating everything, which is complex and will certainly not be successful.

"At Anida Latam we aim to find those Quick Wins, in order to obtain tangible benefits for the organization, improving the performance, efficiency and quality of execution of business processes through intelligent automation," says Anida Latam's Project and Automation Manager.

"Our offering is available as a service (RaaS), which seeks to allow employees to focus on activities of value to the company and leave repetitive tasks in the hands of the company's Robot Operations Center," he concludes.
